The direct sale of FNM engines on the Italian market is returning to CMD as part of a strategic approach aimed at increasing competitiveness. Starting from February 1, 2026, the FNM nautical division will once again manage the direct distribution of FNM and FNM Hybrid engines in Italy, as part of the strategic path initiated following CMD's recent return to entirely Italian ownership.
This decision comes at the end of a multi-year collaboration with AS Labruna S.r.l., which we thank for the work done over the past six years as the exclusive distributor and for its significant contribution to the development and positioning of the FNM brand on the Italian market.
The choice is aimed at enhancing a portfolio of highly technological marine propulsion systems, already selected by numerous Italian and international shipyards. These solutions are designed for recreational boating and professional applications, with a focus on reliability, efficiency, and low-emission hybrid technologies.
“Returning to direct management of the Italian market is a natural and strategic step for us. Italy is a key market for FNM, and we want to be even closer to customers, shipyards, and workshops, offering direct communication, more competitive proposals, fast response times, and increasingly advanced commercial and technical support.”
Giorgio Negri – Commercial Director and founding partner, CMD S.p.A.
From 2026 onwards, sales, spare parts, accessories, and technical assistance will be managed directly by CMD through a dedicated structure for the Italian market, to ensure a more competitive offering and a service that is even more efficient and closer to the needs of industry professionals.
Atella (PZ), 8 January 2026 - CMD, an Italian company founded in 1989 and leading the way in the design and prototyping of advanced propulsion technologies, has completed a major reverse buyout, returning 100% share control to Italian hands.
The purchase of 67% of the capital previously held by the Chinese multinational Loncin Motor Co. Ltd. - entered CMD’s shareholding in 2017 to support its global expansion - marks a return to the fully Italian industrial identity, strengthening the company’s strategic autonomy and long-term vision.
The entrepreneurs Giorgio and Mariano Negri, already co-founders and architects of the share restructuring, explained the meaning of this choice in a complex global context: «Bringing the decision-making and industrial centre back to Italy means reaffirming an identity built in more than fifty years of history and creating the best conditions for facing the technological and industrial challenges of the coming years», said entrepreneur Mariano Negri , now President and CEO, who leads a new Board of Directors assisted by his cousin Giorgio Negri and their children, representatives of the third generation of the family. This strengthens the Italian family business model , ensuring continuity and deep connection with the territory. «We choose to remain anchored in the South, to our origins - continues the President - and in particular to Basilicata, which in a complex historical phase proves to be a land of industrial rebirth, skills and opportunities. Here we want to continue investing and working, offering a concrete perspective of growth for local communities and for present and future generations».
CMD, which operates in the automotive, nautical, aeronautical and energy sectors, is positioned as a key player in the transition towards sustainable mobility, with a focus on electric, hybrid and high-tech solutions, also developed in collaboration with research institutions.
With the closure of the operation in Caserta, the heart of management and R&D activities, the company is preparing to participate in the main international fairs in 2026, consolidating its role as a global industry leader. «We choose the future with a clear industrial vision - says Giorgio Negri - focusing on the company, skills, people and our strongly Italian soul.»
The transaction also entailed a significant increase in the share capital, from EUR 16.8 million to EUR 25.9 million: a real injection of capital made directly by the family, demonstrating full confidence in the industrial project and growth prospects. A company so reinvigorated confirms that an industrial Italy strong, innovative and rooted in the territories not only exists and resists, but chooses to invest with conviction in its own future.
Developed in partnership with Turntide Technologies
The FNM Hybrid division of CMD S.p.A. returns to the spotlight at METSTRADE Amsterdam – taking place from November 18 to 20 – with an innovation set to redefine the standards of sustainable marine propulsion: the new FNM42HPE hybrid engine with BHS 120kW, developed in collaboration with the UK-based Turntide Technologies.
A blend of power, efficiency, and cutting-edge technology, the new system is the result of an international partnership combining CMD’s engineering expertise with Turntide’s leadership in axial flux electric motor design.
At the heart of this advanced system lies the integration of the FNM42Hp marine engine with BHS and the innovative Turntide Axial Flux Electric Motor, one of the highest performing in its class. It delivers a power-to-weight ratio exceeding 5.1 kW/kg and 20.5 Nm/kg at 360 VdC, ensuring smooth, quiet, and highly efficient operation, even in compact installations.
"We are delighted to partner with FNM – said Michael Hart, Business Development Manager at Turntide Technologies - on this project. The collaboration shows one of the many ways that axial flux motors can power anything that moves, and we are proud to see the new Turntide next-generation axial flux motor succeed on the FNM42HPE hybrid engine.”
Key features of the new FNM42HPE with BHS 120kW
FNM Hybrid selected the Turntide AF430S for its high performance in limited spaces, low torque ripple, and compatibility with voltages up to 850 VdC – key features for high-performance marine applications.

The BHS (Blue Hybrid System)
The BHS (Blue Hybrid System) is a fully integrated marine hybrid system entirely designed and developed by CMD enabling three propulsion modes – endothermic, electric, and hybrid – all managed by a single control system.
Its main components include the electric motor, control electronics, and battery pack,
allowing for zero-emission navigation at low speeds and maximum efficiency in endothermic mode, with automatic battery recharging during operation.
The FNM Hybrid engines with BHS system meet the growing demand for quiet, low-impact, and low-wave motion, thanks to the electric motor’s ability to operate at lower RPMs than conventional endothermic engines. An ideal solution for protected marine areas, lagoons, and European inland waterways.
CMD also offers custom-engineered solutions for any engine type, optimizing both hardware and software according to application requirements. The BHS system can be integrated with internal combustion engines from various manufacturers, including FPT, BUKH, BONI, and VM.
